The Executive Secretary of Borno State Education Trust Fund Hon. (Dr) Maina Yaumi was in attendance at “The Education World Forum” that took place at Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London from 19th - 22nd May 2024.
The Nigerian delegation was headed by the Hon Minister of Education Prof Tahir Mamman. Other delegations from Nigeria include some Directors from Federal Ministries and Hon Commissioners of Education and Executive Chairmen of SUBEB from Lagos, Rivers, Kaduna, Kwara, Kano & Jigawa.
The Acting Exec Secretary of National Universities Commission, Mr. Chris. J. Maiyaki was also in attendance.
The UK hosts at the event include Rt Hon Gillian Keegan MP (Secretary of State for Education, UK); Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP (Minister of State for Schools, UK); Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP (Deputy Foreign Secretary, Minister of State for Development and Africa, UK); Luke Hall MP (Minister of State, Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships & Higher Education, UK); David Johnston MP; Baroness Barran; Helen Grant MP; Prof Sir Steve Smith; Scott McDonalf; Dominic Savage(Forum Director, Educ’s World Forum); Gavin Dykes (Programme Director, EWF); and David Aaranovitch (Forum Moderator).
The 4 day event brought Education Leaders and Stakeholders from across the Globe and particularly Ministers of Education from Argentina, Uganda, Serbia, Japan, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Pakistan, New Zealand, Tanzania, Morocco, Maldives, Montenegro, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Zambia, Georgia, Germany, Armenia, Gambia, Senegal, Bangladesh, India, Palestine, Namibia, Albania, Malawi, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Sierra Leone etc.
The theme of the event which focuses on encouraging AI understanding, building human relationships and resilience, and accelerating climate change was well attended with sessions on how to improve education and drive recovery; how to optimize the balance of education’s response to urgent & important challenges; tackling climate change to achieve sustainable development goals; balancing vocational and academic learning to develop student potential; fostering foundational learning; how to shape learning & teaching practice to improve wellbeing and resilience; improving practice in allocating funding, effective planning and identifying priorities; balancing AI, technology and traditional education; balancing early years and higher education; balancing vocational and academic learning; optimizing green education and it’s impact; balancing science and the arts; prioritization and poll making; higher education innovations and their challenges; building skills and choosing priorities etc.
The networking sessions provided opportunities for partnership and collaboration with organizations and institutions towards the advancement of education in Borno State.
