Handing Over Ceremony of a Block of Storey Building Constructed by Borno State Education Trust Fund at UNIMAID Demonstration Secondary School to the School Authority.



On 15th May 2025, the Borno State Education Trust Fund (ETF) officially handed over a newly constructed, state-of-the-art storey block to the management of Demonstration Secondary School, University of Maiduguri. The event was graced by dignitaries, education stakeholders, and excited students—united by a shared vision: strengthening education in Borno State.


Welcome Address – Prof. Hauwa Abdu Biu (Chairman, ETF)

The event began with warm and inspiring words from Prof. Hauwa Abdu Biu, Chairman of the ETF. She welcomed guests and reaffirmed the Board's unwavering commitment to supporting quality education across the state. She praised the Governor’s leadership and applauded the teamwork that brought this impactful project to life.


Opening Remarks – Prof. Mohammed Munkaila (on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, University of Maiduguri)

Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Munkaila expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for his consistent commitment to educational transformation. He also extended appreciation to the Chairman, Executive Secretary, and management of ETF.


Project Overview

The building consists of:

  • 3 classrooms (40-student capacity each)

  • 1 library (40-seat capacity).

  • 1 computer lab with 40 PCs.

  • Fully equipped Home Economics lab.

  • Male and female staff rooms.

  • 6 VIP toilets.

  • Underground water reservoir.


Additional Educational Materials Donated by ETF

  • 1,000 customized 60/40 exercise books.

  • 300 ABC of Computers textbooks.

  • 1 Complete mobile labs for Physics.

  • 1 Complete mobile labs for Chemistry, and

  • 1 Complete mobile labs for Biology.


Remarks– Hon. (Dr) Maina Yaumi (Executive Secretary, ETF)

Hon. (Dr) Maina Yaumi (E.S, ETF) reiterated that this is not just an investment in infrastructure, but in the future of Borno State. In a heartfelt message to students, he emphasized:

Hard Work:
"Success is built day by day through commitment, study, and active engagement."

Perseverance:
"Even when the road gets tough—through personal or academic struggles—never give up. Let resilience and prayer guide you."

He thanked all partners, especially Kamazal Engineering Services Ltd, and praised the engineering team for maintaining quality from start to finish.


Appreciation – Principal, Aishatu Kaka Bukar

The Principal, Aishatu Kaka Bukar of Demonstration Secondary School expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of the entire school community.

"This is a transformative moment for us. The new facilities and learning tools will enhance our ability to deliver quality education and support our students in achieving excellence."


Vote of Thanks – A Student Representative

One of the students delivered an emotional and sincere vote of thanks, saying:

"We feel seen, valued, and inspired. This building will not only shelter our learning—it will ignite our dreams."

She promised, on behalf of her peers, to make good use of the facilities and strive for academic excellence.


Closing Remarks – Hon. Alhaji Bukar Tijani (Secretary to the State Government)

On the closing remarks, Hon. Alhaji Bukar Tijani (Secretary to the State Government) Representing His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, commended ETF for the timely and impactful intervention. He emphasized the Governor’s commitment to leaving no school behind, and urged all stakeholders to continue working together to build an education system that empowers every child in Borno State.
