ETF Executive Secretary, Hon. (Dr.) Maina Yaumi, Distributes Foodstuffs and School Materials to IDP Children in Gajiram

In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and commitment to education, the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Education Trust Fund (ETF), Hon. (Dr.) Maina Yaumi, was at Gajiram Central Primary School on January 18, 2024, to distribute foodstuffs and essential school materials to children of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Guzamala and Nganzai Local Government Areas.

In his opening remarks, Hon. (Dr) Maina Yaumi extended his profound gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum mni, FNSE, CON, for his relentless efforts in transforming the education sector across the state.

“His Excellency’s commitment to service delivery and unwavering determination to provide quality education for the children of Borno State has not only restored hope,” Dr. Yaumi said, “but also encouraged parents to send their children back to school, knowing that their education is valued and protected. It is against this backdrop that ETF deemed it fit to distribute foodstuffs and school materials to the children of IDPs from Guzamala and Nganzai now residing in Gajiram.”

He also used the occasion to passionately appeal to parents to enroll their children in school, stressing that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, ignorance, and despair.

Items Distributed:

  • 200 bags of 25kg rice

  • 200 kegs of 5L cooking oil

  • 500 computer textbooks

  • 500 customized 60-leaf ETF exercise books

  • 500 customized 40-leaf ETF exercise books

  • 250 drawing books

  • 200 sets of school uniforms

  • 50 packets of dustless white chalk

The event saw notable representation from education stakeholders, including:

  • Mustapha Bukar, Director of Schools, Ministry of Education (representing the Hon. Commissioner, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe)

  • Babagana Zanna, Director of Schools, SUBEB

  • Abba Kurama Umar, Director of Planning, Research & Statistics, ETF

  • Mustapha Bulu, Director of Finance & Accounts, ETF

  • Haruna Aji Mohd, IT Assistant, ETF

Community leaders also expressed their appreciation. In separate remarks, Wakil Babagana (representing the District Head of Gajiram) and Zanna Bura, the Village Head of Gajiram, thanked His Excellency for his continuous concern for the people of Nganzai. They echoed the call for parents to prioritize education and ensure every child attends school.

This initiative further underscores ETF’s commitment to supporting Governor Zulum’s vision of rebuilding Borno through inclusive and accessible education for all, especially for those most affected by displacement and insecurity.
