In line with Borno State's commitment to advancing quality education and global competitiveness, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, CON, constituted a high-level committee to identify opportunities for Borno indigenes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Health Education, and Chinese Language Studies both within Nigeria and abroad.
As part of this strategic initiative, the delegation—led by the Honourable Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Engr. Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe—embarked on an education-focused mission to the People’s Republic of China in May 2024.
The delegation visited leading institutions across Liaoning, Jiangsu, and Anhui Provinces, including:
Anhui Medical University
Hefei University of Technology
Liaoning University of Technology
Jinzhou Medical University
Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics
The mission focused on assessing institutional capacity, exploring scholarship opportunities, and facilitating potential partnerships between the identified universities and Borno State University. The team also held engagements with university representatives, toured facilities, and interacted with international students, especially from Nigeria and other African nations.
In a recent scholarship award ceremony for 524 postgraduate students, Governor Zulum commended the Committee for its proactive efforts and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sponsoring qualified Borno indigenes to study in the selected Chinese universities starting from the next academic session.
